Meet Rio, a Senior System Architect specializing in Pega at BPM Company. With 8 years of experience working on challenging Pega projects, he values our company’s strong focus on personal growth and the like-minded colleagues he works alongside. Read how Rio has shaped his career and what drives his ambition.

How did your career started as Pega System Architect?

“I started at BPM Company nearly 7 years ago. Before that, I spent a year working with Pega at another consultancy firm, where I earned my Pega System Architect certification. However, I didn’t feel like I was in the right place there. Back then, the Pega community was still small, but BPM Company was already known as the organization for talented Pega developers. Eventually, the recruitment team reached out to me on LinkedIn, and that’s how it all started.”

What motivated you to choose BPM Company at the time?

“The main reason for my decision was that at my previous employer, I only had the opportunity to work with one client. Whereas BPM Company offered a much larger portfolio of clients. As a smaller company with a strong reputation in the market, BPM Company really caught my attention. It was here that I earned my PSSA certification, back when we were still working with Pega version 7.2. Now, we’re already on version 24, so it’s been quite a while.”

Where do you currently stand in your Pega career?

“I’m currently at Rabobank, where I’m taking on my first role as a Pega Lead System Architect (LSA). Although I’m not officially certified as an LSA yet, that’s my goal for this year. At my previous client, I was the right-hand to the LSA, but it’s a whole different experience when you’re the one with the responsibility and authority. Becoming an LSA was definitely my next milestone, but that opportunity wasn’t available there at the time. When a role opened up through BPM Company at Rabobank that perfectly alighted with the next step in my career, I didn’t hesitate to take it.”

How do you stay on top of new developments on the Pega platform with your clients?

“My next step is to become an LSA, which requires a lot of studying. In my free time, I focus on the Academy to keep my knowledge up-to-date. At Rabobank, we sometimes have hackathons and meetings between Lead Engineers to discuss new topics. It’s mostly about thinking more reactive – looking at what’s needed right now and where knowledge is lacking. Finding the right balance is key, along with my own passion for the platform.”

What is your ambition as a Pega professional?

“My biggest ambition as a Pega professional is to achieve my LSA certification. Each LSA brings their own approach to the role, and I want to focus more on the technical side, rather than on project management or PMO tasks. I get much more satisfaction from designing a solution, seeing it implemented, and knowing that it works and the client is happy. These are the things that truly make me happy.”

How does BPM Company support your growth and development?

“During the LSA program, BPM Company offers extensive support. Their unique LSA mentoring program helps guide and structure the setup of the program. You’ll also have the chance to attend practice-related meetings, providing opportunities to connect with colleagues working for other clients. Additionally, you can take part in soft and hard skills training sessions, ensuring you stay on the right track.”

What do you enjoy most about working at BPM Company?

“I think what makes BPM Company special is the strong sense of shared values among the people who work there. The core values we recently defined are reflected in many of my colleagues. There are a lot of like-minded people, which creates a great dynamic and sense of connection. Of course, every organization has its hierarchy, but here the structure is quite flat in terms of communication. We also do fun activities, and it may sound cliché, but there’s a bit of a family atmosphere. I’ve been here for 7 years, but it doesn’t feel like it, which is a good thing.”

Do you feel that you’re continuously challenged?

“Absolutely. You’re constantly challenged, and there’s a real focus on each individual. If someone excels more in facilitating a training rather than becoming an LSA, they can focus on that, without it being an issue. The company recognizes people’s strengths and how they can be further developed. This also applies to projects – if a particular project doesn’t align with my personal strengths, my input is taken into account. I think that’s one of the best things about BPM Company.”
